Walt Disney World Resort Character Dining

While visiting Walt Disney World Resort there is a LOT to do. As many times as my family has visited, we haven’t even come close to ‘doing it all’ - and more new things are happening all the time! Unless you live on Main Street, U.S.A. (wait, is that an option?) you may never see and do all Walt Disney World Resort has to offer. This may overwhelm some who may be on a once-in-a-lifetime trip with their family. There are many character meet and greet experiences throughout the four Theme Parks. For a family wanting to ‘do it all’, they may skip meeting their favorite characters due to long lines. I completely understand because during our first visit – that WAS us! However we still met Chip, Dale, Pluto, Mickey, AND Minnie during that trip without waiting even for a second in line. Wait – HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?! No they did not come to our hotel room, no I did not ‘sneak behind the scenes’, nor did we pay for any exorbitant VIP package. I am going to share with you my secret – Character Dining.

Character Dining allows guests to enjoy an all you care to eat style meal while your favorite Disney Characters come to YOU! As you refuel from your time in the parks, each Character who is hosting your meal will come right over to your family’s table for a one on one visit. This time is so relaxing and feels like you have your favorite Disney character all to yourself – at least for a few minutes!
There are many different Character Dining options currently available. Keep in mind that this list is current as of the date of this blog posting and can change at any time. The Characters listed also may not all be available upon your arrival, but I can promise you there will be friends to meet! Here is a listing of the current character dining options available.

Again I can’t stress enough that ALL the friends listed may not be at your Character Dining experiences, but there will be characters at your character dining. Also not all restaurants have character dining during every meal period, as indicated.

As you can imagine, Character Dining experiences are VERY popular and reservations fill up quickly. Be sure to make reservations 180 days in advance or as soon as you book your trip if it is within the 180 days.

BRING YOUR CAMERA! PhotoPass Photographers are not stationed inside the restaurant. Some restaurants may have a photo opportunity when you arrive but they will not capture the experience at your table.

My favorite so far is the Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s. The Fab Five were all there for our breakfast and they also had a very large assortment of food to choose from.

Keep Character Dining in mind when planning your next Walt Disney World visit. You won't regret it!

  1. That looks like so much fun! I'm sure that when you get to meet any of the characters its a fun and memorable experience. It's all about the memories.

  2. These are actually the best! Whenever we go to Disney World I try and get in on it so the kids can have fun. Last year though the older kids had had enough of the characters so they were party poopers. We're going next year, and whether they like it or not, I'm going to have my youngest do it so she can have it done at least once in her lifetime. The bigger kids can kick rocks!

  3. We've done most of these over the years, but Chef Mickey' is by far the best. We are doing it again when we go in August.

  4. I absolutely cannot wait to take my youngest to Disney. Right now I think she's too young to really enjoy it.

  5. What an awesome dining adventure you had with your family! We want to try that too. Thanks for us an idea what to do when we visit Disney World!

  6. I think this is what Disney is all about! Dining with the characters! Oh, and seeing the castle!

  7. Character dining is so much fun and creates so many great family memories!

  8. OMg when did Sci-fi start having character meals. for that matter how did i not know this I practically live at Disney. Okay back to point we love character dining this year we are doing Chef Mickey for Thanksgiving instead of Liberty tree.

    1. I sorta cheated here. :) The Galactic Breakfast was only offered in 2015 during Star Wars weekends. I sure hope they offer something like that again soon!

  9. you guys looked as though you had an absolute blast. I never tried the character dining while we were there.

  10. 180 days in advance? Wow I knew it would be popular but that is insane! It would be amazing to have Mickey and Minnie at the table with me!

  11. Our family Disney memories are so vivid in my mind. I remember every trip including the character dining for my kids' birthdays.

  12. Wow these are all great tips!! I am going to add these to my giant Disney binder! :)

  13. I am a total Disney Character Dinning convert. I always thought it was silly, but now we do it every time. It is so nice to have them come to the table.

  14. Looks like so much fun! And what a time saver! We had an experience about 10 years ago at Disneyland when the park was super quiet, we just walked up to the characters. Best trip!

  15. I've been to Disneyland only once in my life, but I was an adult. I wished I could've experienced it as a child. Even though, I was an adult, it was still pretty magical!

  16. So fun! We did this when we spent six months in Orlando when my boys were 3 & 4. Fun times.

  17. This looks like it was so much fun brought back memories of when I went to Disney with my hubby. We were two grown kids lol... but then Disney always brings the inner child in you no matter how old you get :-)

  18. The next time we go will be with kids! We didn't go out of our way to meet characters last time we went, but I'm sure it will make a HUGE difference with kids!

  19. I have always wanted to do the character dining! But, we have never made reservations early enough. Perhaps next time!

  20. Huge fan of character dining. I did Chef Mickey with family when I was in high school. The Crystal Palace we do every time we are at MK and loved the year with did Princess Breakfast at Epcot- worth every penny.

  21. How fun is this? I love character style dining, this is just too fun! Though my youngest probably wouldn't love it. He's going through a phase where he hates costumed people, lol!

  22. We love Disney and are overdue for a rturn visit. The character breakfasts are just wonderful. Looks like you all had a blast
