Purex Plus Clorox 2 Detergent Put to The Dreamer Family Test!

The Purex® brand provided me with a sample of Purex® plus Clorox 2® detergent in exchange for a product review. All the opinions expressed here are my own.

Purex challenged me to put Purex Plus Clorox 2 Detergent to the test. Now I must tell you that whenever one of the boys (or me!) gets a stain on our clothing - I take it directly to my mom. I don't know how she does it but she can get out ANYTHING! Time for me to roll up my sleeves and see what I can tackle.

When deciding what I should do for this post, my son asked if he could help. I decided, why not? I handed him a nice, white t-shirt and told him to do whatever he wanted to it to get it dirty. He was THRILLED and he got right to work.

In less than 2 minutes, that nice white shirt looked like this.

Should I be proud or horrified? I mean he was efficient, that shirt is an absolute mess. His 'stains of choice' were grass, dirt, grease straight from the grill grates, chocolate, ketchup, mustard, and lip gloss (it is actually lip stain).

Time to get to work! I started by just rinsing off the areas with water.

Next, I used Purex plus Clorox 2 as a pre-treatment. I poured a bit directly on the stains and scrubbed them with a toothbrush. Make sure to scrub both sides! Fabric is very porous and the stain quickly goes deep into the fabric.

I let is sit for about 10 minutes as I rounded up some towels to also throw in the load. I set my washer to wash with the hottest water possible and set it to 'heavy duty'. The wash time was an hour and 44 minutes! I normally do not use that setting but if this wasn't an extremely dirty shirt - I don't know what would be.

FINALLY, I was ready to see the fruits of my hard work. And... TA-DA!

It looks totally perfect from this picture. The dirt, grass stains, chocolate, and mustard are COMPLETELY gone! Sadly, the lip stain, grease, and ketchup remained. You have to look super close to see them.

To be fair, we threw a lot at this shirt and the stain fighting Purex plus Clorox 2 did take care of most of the stains. It also came out brighter and smelled pretty good! I am sure Purex will be able to tackle my family's normal every day-to-day laundry needs. This detergent is a great value and will be a new staple in the laundry room.

  2. I haven't used Purex in ages but when you're looking for a great value detergent it's the first that I would pick up if I didn't have the money to buy my regular detergent. I loved how your son took on that challenge, I can certainly see my own kids doing the same. I don't think there's much that can take out ketchup without putting actual clorox on it. To be fair though, it still did a great job!

    2. I usually buy Shout to pretreat. I'm not a big fan of clorox really but if I do have something white with a stain, I would sometimes use a bit of clorox to get the stain out.

  36. To be completely honest I feel too guilty to use any Clorox products. Aren't they dreadful for the environment? I actually wash most of our clothes without any detergent and for stains use something very natural and mild. The milder version do not work as well and I often end up throwing clothes away (this can't be good for the environment either).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You are right, throwing out clothes is a waste! I would think using a stronger detergent in moderation for those tough stains would save your clothes, but you aren't using it all the time so better for the environment, too. Maybe you could try to use detergent right on the stains as a pre-treatment and then wash as you normally do?
