Tom Sawer Island at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Have you ever visited Tom Sawyer Island? It is a bit of a hidden gem at Magic Kingdom and it is every little adventurer's dream! My boys LOVE to visit the island and will bug us all day until we let them go. It is a great place to discover. There are rustic paths winding through a thick forest so you never know what is around the next turn. There are caves and a fort and bridges . . . come see!

To access the island, you must take a barge. These depart from the area across from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (or as the boys call it 'Crazy Train Ride').

Once you get the all clear to disembark, you are free to discover the island on your own. Travel back to the day where Tom and Huck would have spent their care-free summer. This island truly seems as though it was created by two rowdy little boys. And MY boys are ALL OVER THAT!

My boys especially love the fort.

There are play guns at the top that the kids can play with to pretend they are defending the fort.

Watch the stairs!

And the coolest part of the island? There are real caves. They are also very, very dark! We usually end up using our cell phones as flashlights so we can see our way though.

Next time you find yourself at Magic Kingdom, set aside some time to take your Tom, Huck, or Becky to Tom Sawyer Island for some good old fashion fun!

  1. We have only been there once and maybe when we go back we'll do it again. Your boys sure look like they're having fun but I'm pretty sure that my little girl would have just as much fun. :)

  2. We have been to Disney a million times and can you believe we've skipped this every single one of them? Maybe we will get there this year when we go.

  3. That does sound like fun! I would enjoy this, too. I live near the real Tom Sawyer island, in St. Louis. The island is in Hannibal, MO.

  7. I've been to Sawyer Island in Disneyland, but I don't know if I ever ran into caves there. I'm also not entirely sure if they aren't going to change it up with the addition of Star Wars Land.

  8. We went there, but never got to the island, too much of a queue. Never realized there was caves there too.
