Be Gel-ous of My (Paleo) Gummy Bears & Marshmallows

I have been eating Paleo for two years now - though I really do need to get back to being more strict! I have lost 65 lbs, gained 10 back, and have another 20 I really want to lose. I'm in a rut and I need to branch out into some new foods. Say... gummy bears and marshmallows? Sounds good to me!

Remember when you were a kid and other children told you what was really in JELL-O? I thought they were teasing! But nope - they were right.  Beef Gelatin contains vital nutrients that are important to your hair, bones, tendons, collagen, joints, and skin. Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin is made from 100% grass-fed Bovine hides. It contains amino acids you just can't get from many other sources.

This gelatin can assist with promoting younger looking skin, improving skin moisture and smoothness, improving signs of deep wrinkles and suppleness, promoting healthier hair and stronger nails, keeping bones strong, and supporting joint health. Gelatin also contains natural glycine to improve your quality of sleep. Ummmmmm I am pretty sure I just need to bathe in this stuff daily!

It is also tasteless and dissolves easily in hot liquid, thickening as it cools.  PERFECT for gummy bears and marshmallows!

Gummy bears are so much easier to make than I ever imagined. All you need is 1 cup of liquid (fruit juice works well) and 2 Tablespoons Beef Gelatin. THAT'S IT! I pureed strawberries and bananas in my Ninja Mega Kitchen System (BL771) and added white grape juice to make the adorable guys above. Heat the liquid on your stove-top just to boiling - but do not boil. Remove from heat and VERY slowly add the gelatin stirring constantly. You can then poor into silicone molds (you can find many different varieties on Amazon - you can find the cute mold I used below) or into a glass baking dish.

Then refrigerate. My little guys were done in just an hour but you may need more time for larger molds.  My kids loved them, and are already brain-storming ideas on what we should put in the next batch. I may even hide some spinach or kale in the next ones. Shhhh........

I am not even going to pretend I can figure out how to make paleo marshmallows. I searched the internet for the perfect recipe and I finally found one over at Our Paleo Life. I do not have a stand mixer, so I used my Ninja Mega Kitchen System (BL771) using the dough disc on the dough setting. Worked perfectly! I can't wait to get these over an open fire. Mine are a bit brown because I ran out of honey and used 100% maple syrup instead. They still taste great.

I am excited to add this gelatin into my daily diet and see how it improves my health. My skin is very dry, no matter how much lotion I use - so I am hopeful that this will help.

How would you add Vital Proteins Gelatin into your day?

I have received complimentary products in exchange for sharing Vital Proteins with others.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.

**Many (gummy) bears were harmed eaten during the making of this blog post.**

  1. I've always been interested in the paleo diet and what it entails. I wouldn't mind learning more. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to implement.

    1. It isn't too hard, but it does take lots of planning ahead. The most difficult thing is you can't just 'run out' and grab a bite to eat!

  2. I would not mind to eat many of healthy gummy bears like this. It's one of my favourite sweets. I've never thought it's not difficult to make it, and we can add our own flavour. I wonder if Vital Proteins Beef Gelatine is also available in Europe.

  9. I've been seeing DIY gummy recipes a lot lately. Gummy vitamins are the only way I can get my son to take them regularly and without constantly reminders.
