Memory Maker, PhotoPass, & Selfies - OH MY!

My favorite Walt Disney World Resort souvenirs the memories my family and I have created together. What better way to capture these special memories than the perfect photos? Regardless if your visit is a once in a lifetime family trip or you frequently make weekend visits to Walt Disney World Resort - we can all agree that your family's vacation pictures are a big deal. Let's pull up a sofa, grab a Dole Whip, and dig right into your family's Walt Disney World photo options - shall we?

The first choice of capturing your Walt Disney World vacation photos is your smart phone. You have it with you anyways. It is small. It is simple to use and quick to take out of your pocket. It is also the easiest and fastest way to share your photos on social media during your visit. Plus - it's free. Also, there are selfies to be taken. (Just remember you can't bring a selfie stick to Walt Disney World - they are banned!) The downside? Your battery will not make it all day unless you have backups in place or you are lucky enough to score a table by an outlet for lunch. You also may run out of room - you don't want to be forced to decide what memories to keep and what to delete! Depending on your phone, your photos may not be of great quality. The worst negative is that you will not be in many photos, and that makes me sad.

Another family photo option is to bring the good old family camera. Again, your picture quality will greatly differ depending on your camera. You can easily bring extra batteries and memory cards so you don't run out of power or room. The negative is that you have a camera to drag around the Theme Parks. Depending on what type of camera you have - this could be a real inconvenience! And again - you are not going to be in the pictures you take. Your family wants pictures of you, too!  This little throwback below is from 2013. Where are the parents? Oh - taking the pictures. So sad.

Did you know Walt Disney World Resort has it's own photographers ready and willing to take your picture? That's right! At most places where you would want your picture taken - Disney's PhotoPass Photographers are there to capture those important memories for you. My favorite place to take advantage of using PhotoPass photographers is during character meet and greets. Using their high-quality cameras of awesomeness - they capture your ENTIRE character experience from start to finish. Check out these photos our PhotoPass photographer captured as we were waiting to meet Minnie!

Yes I am overly excited. We all know that I am not really an adult. I also love the pictures of the boys meeting their favorites.

Or wondering if this was really a good idea . . .

The PhotoPass photographers also capture some pretty amazing character interaction. These are just a few my favorites!

If you are lucky, your PhotoPass photographer may add a little extra magic to your shots!

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE! Once you are set up with PhotoPass - your ride photos and videos will be captured.

If your family has MagicBands you need to do nothing to sign up for PhotoPass service. It is already in your MagicBands. If you do not have the bands, you can obtain a PhotoPass card from any PhotoPass Photographer. After the PhotoPass photographer takes your picture, they scan your MagicBand or your PhotoPass card. For ride photos and videos if you have MagicBands you don't need to do a thing - they are automatically saved with your band. If you have a card you tap the card as you exit the ride to screens that will show your photo. That's it!

Now . . . how do you get the photos off your MagicBand or PhotoPass card? You can use your My Disney Experience app on your smart phone or you can also view them by logging on to www.mydisneyphotopass.disney.go.com where you can purchase your photos. Currently, picture costs start at $12.95 for one 5x7 photo. Wait - what? Did you just choke on your Dole Whip? Yeah . . . this could get expensive. How on earth are you going to be able to just pick a few pictures? What if you want them all?! We easily have over 250 PhotoPass pictures taken during our family visits. I know I am not good at math but . . no. . . just no...

Luckily - I HAVE A SOLUTION! Every visit - we do not even think of arriving without first purchasing Memory Maker!

Memory Maker allows you to download every single PhotoPass photo you have - AT NO ADDITIONAL COST! Simply purchase your memory maker at least 3 days before your vacation for the current price of $149. If you do not purchase in advance, the Memory Maker price is $169. If you aren't sure you are going to have enough photos taken to make it worth the price (you will) you can always wait until you get home and then pay the higher price. In addition to the photos you had taken  - you also get many free high quality photos that are an awesome addition to any scrapbook!

You can also add borders, character signatures, stickers, and more to your photos or even change your favorite pic to black and white! Just remember to make a copy of the photo first before you start editing it.

Here is a little money saving tip! If you are traveling with another family, only one family needs to purchase the Memory Maker. Before your arrival, simply link together your My Disney Experience account with the other family and enable photo sharing. TA-DA! Everyone has Memory Maker! This is also great if you split into groups. You still get all the photos even if you are in different Theme Parks!

With Memory Maker you don't have to choose which pictures you keep - you get them all! Also, everyone is in the picture as PhotoPass photographers include everyone in on the action. You are effortlessly capturing your family's most magical moments that you will all hold close to your hearts for many many years to come! I mean - look at this beauty I  now have!

  8. The family and friends linkup is a real plus. On our last trip I purchased Memory Maker. My daughter and son came down separately from us with their band group. Even they weren't with us for half the trip, all the pictures they took with their band friends showed up with my pictures. They also show up in the MDE app where you can download a lower resolution picture to your phone. I texted those to them periodically throughout the trip so she could share them with their friends right away.

  10. There are so many ways that you can capture your memories and phones are always a safebet. At least if you have a better camera than I do lol.

  11. When we used to go on trips I would take my little handheld point and shoot camera - of course that is no longer even ok quality. I love that the option is there for professionals to take your pictures so you don't have to worry about it!

  19. I've never used Memory Maker, we have a joint photo sharing site on Shutterfly that we upload all of our photos to. This sounds like it will give us a bit more flexibility with editing. I'll try it out!
