How to get FastPass+ Selections for Toy Story Land!

Toy Story Land is opening on June 30th, 2018! I have been waiting for this since I was the same age my oldest son is now. It has been 23 years since we glimpsed into the world of toys when Toy Story released in 1995. I am so excited to shrink down to the size of a toy and hang out with Buzz, Rex, Woody, and all our Toy Story friends!

I know, I am being a hypocrite here - I said I would NEVER visit Florida in the heat of the summer. (If you are, here are my tips on how you can stay cool!) But - TOY STORY LAND, BABY! If even the sweltering heat isn't going to keep me away - nothing will!

As history has shown us, wait times for new attractions at Walt Disney World are long. Newer rides such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Frozen Ever After, Flights of Passage, and Na'vi River Journey still have long wait times daily.

We expect when visiting Walt Disney World that we will be waiting in line. But for up to 3 hours for one attraction?! That is cutting into my vacation time, man! Also, waiting in line with 2 kids for my entire trip is not my idea of a fun trip.

Here is where Disney's FastPass+ comes in! FastPass+ gives you a much shorter wait time for selected Walt Disney World attractions. You can make 3 selections per day in advance of your arrival.  Make selections 60 days in advance if you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel and 30 days if you are not.

Now here is the tricky part . . . if everybody has FastPass+ made for a popular attraction, then nobody has FastPass+. There is only a limited amount of FastPass+ allowed per ride, per day, per hour. You need strategic planning to get those hard to get FastPass+ selections!

While it is never a promise or a guarantee that you will get the FastPass+ selections you would like, I do have some tips that will offer you a slight advantage. Happy planning!

Tip #1 - Stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Remember, if you stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you get to make your FastPass+ selections 30 days before guests who are staying elsewhere, or locals who will be visiting for the day. If you waited until 30 days out, the chances are slim to none that you will get the most coveted FastPass+ choices.

Tip #2 - Have valid theme park admission. Make sure your tickets are purchased and linked to everyone in your party in your My Disney Experience account. OR if you have a vacation package with tickets, make sure it is correctly linked to your account. The last thing you want to happen is to find out that you forgot to purchase a ticket for someone or it is not linked correctly. Make sure this is ready to go before you log on to make your FastPass+ selections.  Familiarize yourself with the website so you know how to navigate and use your My Disney Experience account. If you need help, I created a FastPass+ tutorial to walk you through every step of the way.

Tip #3 - Know your tiers and have a plan! You are wasting precious seconds wondering which rides you should FastPass. Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom have tierd FastPass+ options. You can only book 1 FastPass+ from the 1st tier and then 2 from the second tier for those parks. The tiers can change, but right now Tier 1 at Hollywood Studios reflects the new Toy Story Land opening. You can only choose one attraction from the following; Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Midway Mania. If you want to select more than one from tier 1, you will have to do it on a different day during your stay.

Tip #4 - Book those FastPasses the second you are able! When staying onsite, your FastPass+ window opens at 7:00 a.m. EST (Mickey time) exactly 60 days before you arrive. This is if you were smart and you followed Tip #1. Set your alarm, grab some coffee, and log onto your My Disney Experience account. A common mistake is thinking that if you are arriving on December 1st that your window will open on October 1st. Not so! It is exactly 60 days out, so if you arrive on December 1st you are actually booking your FastPasses on October 2nd.

Tip #5 - Book the difficult FastPass+ selections first and last. Wait, HUH?! Ok, bear with me here because this is one very important tip. When that second hand clicks over, you are going to want to schedule the most difficult to get FastPass+ selection first. Remember, everyone else who is arriving the same day you are are doing the same thing at the very same time! You also want to plan the Theme Parks with those important FastPass+ selections towards the end of your trip. When staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel you can make FastPass+ selections for each day as long as you have valid Theme Park admission. No need to get up exactly 60 days before each Theme Park day. People who are checking in the day before you did this already yesterday! And people who are checking in 5 days before you did this already 5 days ago! The longer you go out during your stay, the less people you are currently competing with.

You should now be all set to have a blast at the new Toy Story Land. I will see you there!
